The Story Behind the Book
It started in church in December 2024. The sermon was on Luke 2, and I began pondering how to make it understandable for little ears. Two of my seven grandchildren, ages two and four, were coming to visit the next week.
I started writing notes on my phone and copied the verses. Then I began playing with them until the concept for the book took shape. I used AI as a collaborator to help draft and proof, and I directed the work.
That Christmas, their eyes stayed wide. They asked questions. They wanted to hear it again.
So I spent the next year rewriting lines, revising the revisions, and reading the book aloud to my grandchildren. I wanted it to carry Luke’s account to hearts too small for long sentences and unfamiliar names. Not to replace Scripture, but to carry it.
What Is Inside the Book
The story follows Luke’s Gospel through Mary’s wonder, the shepherds’ fear turned to joy, and the long road to a baby lying in a manger. Here is what you will find on the pages:
- A verse from Luke 2 on every page
- A gentle rhyme that retells each verse for little ears
- Questions every few pages that invite your child into the story
- Soft, hand-drawn artwork
- A sturdy hardcover made to be opened every December
Look Inside God’s Greatest Gift
Here are three spreads from the book. Each one pairs a short rhyme with a gentle illustration and the matching verse from Luke 2.

The Christmas Story from Luke 2, in Brief
Luke 2 tells how Caesar Augustus ordered a census, so Joseph and Mary traveled from Nazareth to Bethlehem. There Jesus was born, wrapped in swaddling cloths and laid in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. An angel appeared to shepherds in the fields and told them the good news of great joy, and the shepherds hurried to Bethlehem and found the baby. God’s Greatest Gift follows this account in gentle rhyme, with a verse from Luke 2 on every page.
Questions Your Child Will Hear
Every few pages, the story pauses and asks the child a question. Here are two of them:
★ How big would YOUR eyes get if an angel lit up the sky?
★ What would your voice sound like riding bump-biddy-bump on a donkey?
Questions like these turn storytime into a conversation. Little listeners become travelers on the road to Bethlehem.

Common Questions
What ages is God’s Greatest Gift for?
It is written for children ages 2 to 7. The youngest enjoy the rhyme and the pictures. Older children can answer the questions.
Does the book follow the Bible?
Yes. Every page has a verse from Luke 2 with a gentle rhyme beside it. The rhyme helps young children follow the story. It does not replace Scripture.
Can I see the book before I buy it?
Yes. Watch the read-aloud video above. Or email me using our contact form and I will send a free PDF of the whole book.
Did AI help write the book?
Yes and no. I used AI as a collaborator. I had the concept, started writing, and brainstormed with AI. I reviewed its suggestions, edited them, and edited again.
AI helped draft and proof the work. I let the book sit for a few weeks, then came back and revised it with fresh eyes. Several family members also reviewed and proofread it.
Over about a year, I read it aloud to children and watched how they responded. I recorded myself reading it so I could hear how the rhyme felt, and I rewrote lines again and again until it sounded right.
Finally, my 6-year-old granddaughter, Fizzy, who had just learned to read this year, came into my room, picked up a binder-bound copy, and read it straight through. She gave me the “Fizzy Seal of Approval.”
