The location of your home is just as important as the home itself so finding the perfect neighborhood for your family is essential.

It can seem like a lot of work but taking the time out to investigate the area you are interested in can prove to be worth it in the end. In as much as it’s important for you to feel comfortable in your home, you also need to make sure that the environment around you is safe, conducive and habitable for you.

Some things that make a great neighborhood include good nearby schools for your children to attend, parks for fun outdoor activities, local grocery stores and a friendly community just to name a few.

Below are some tips on how you can find the perfect neighborhood for your family.

Visit the Neighborhood

Visiting a neighborhood could give you a better idea of what the area is like, as opposed to looking online to read other people’s reviews about it. Plus, the reviews found online could be biased and what one person finds pleasant or is able to tolerate may be a no-no for you.

It may be worth your while to go at different times so you can get a real feel of the customs, norms, and culture there. Neighborhoods often aren’t the same during the day, as it is at night or on the weekends. Upon your visit, you could learn that during the weekends, the local grocery store gets busy and the queues are long, or during Friday nights, the streets get noisy due to drunk or merry individuals enjoying their festive weekend celebrations. These are some useful things to know before moving.

Check Out Nearby Schools

If you have kids, finding a good school within the neighborhood should be a top priority. You can save time and money by enrolling your children in a school within your local catchment area, rather than spending it on long commutes out of town.

Ideally, a family-friendly neighborhood should have a good selection of schools for you to inquire at or carry out some research on. Once you have selected one you can visit the website to get more information on the grades and achievements. This can help you know whether it will be a right fit for your child.

Local Parks

Parks are great for family picnics, activities, and recreational sport which you and your family may like to participate in. Sometimes, kids get bored and don’t want to be stuck indoors so, parks can be a great way for them to let off some steam, keep active and be entertained.

Also, during the summer season, there may be funfairs, BBQ parties and other exciting community events that you and your children may want to participate in. A good neighborhood endorses community gatherings and provides communal facilities for public use such as parks and gardens for its residents.

Good Transport Networks

Many people like to be able to commute to work and other areas within or outside of their neighborhood. It can be frustrating if you love your home but can’t seem to get around easily or quickly enough. Also, consider the distance it would take to commute from your house to work. If it’s an hour or more away, you might want to reconsider and look for a house that is closer to home. Getting around the neighborhood and going to work or school by your preferred method of transport should be easy.

Make Use of Online Tools

You can find information on different neighborhoods online through plenty apps and websites. Some give you detailed specific information on everything ranging from the demographic, crime rate, and local attractions and events, to the history, and the population of a particular area.

Many websites like Zillow, Realtor, Trulia, and Dweller allow you to also see inside the home. If you have small children, you’ll want to make sure it’s a kid friendly space. Also, check out the floor plans to make sure it will be convenient for your family. State of the art appliances, updated décor, and easy landscaping make for the perfect move-in ready home.

It is important for you and your family to like the neighborhood you live in. Although it may seem like a lot of hassle, carrying out some research on the schools, shops and local services available to you within your desired area can be worth it. Dedicate a little time towards finding out about the neighborhood you are interested in so that you are sure it’s the perfect one for you.
