Today Show Producers Titled this Segment – Spooky Savings!
We called it a lot of fun to see what kinds of costumes we could put together for just a few pennies.
How we Ended up on the Today Show wearing Halloween Costumes
At the end of our third appearance on the Today Show (October 1) senior producer Jackie Levin invited us to come back on the show at the end of October. The only problem was that the week was dedicated to Halloween ideas. We told her about all of the costumes that we had created for our kids and for us over the years. She was hooked. She sent super-producer Josh Wiener back to Phoenix to go thrift store shopping with us to find the components for this year’s costumes.
Halloween Costume Spending Disclaimer
Normally we wouldn’t go out and buy the components for a costume. We’d use what we had in the house or make something. But Josh wanted to show us shopping. While the prices were reasonable for what we bought, we never would have spent this much money on Halloween. But we did have fun.
How We Shop for Halloween Costumes
We shopped at Savers and Goodwill. The cool thing about Savers (besides it being 1/2 price blue tag day when we shopped) was that around Halloween each year they provide “Costume Consultants.” Basically, they put their employees on the floor to help you find what you need faster. Lisa (from Savers) helped us—you can see her in the stripped prison costume helping Steve find a hat for his Scare Crow costume.
